In simpler terms, Taiko provides a scalable solution to improve transaction efficiency. Unlike other Layer 2 rollups, Taiko does not use centralized sequencers but relies on Ethereum Layer 1 validators to sequence transactions and blocks. This method is called "based sequencing;" it tackles the prevalent issue of sequencer centralization, as well as the fear of single points of failure.
The Multi-Proof Based Contestable Rollup (BCR) design employed on Taiko's Katla testnet is Taiko's core innovation. Multi-Proof BCR represents a sophisticated approach to enhancing the security and scalability of the Ethereum ecosystem. The term "multi-proof" signifies the utilization of various proof methods to ensure the integrity and validity of transactions within the Taiko network. This innovative design features a four-tier proof system with elements of optimistic proofs, SGX proofs, and SGX-zkEVM proofs.incorporates a four-tier proof system that features optimistic proofs, SGX (Software Guard Extensions) proofs, and SGX-zkEVM proofs. The "contestable" aspect of BCR refers to the ability to challenge and dispute transactions if necessary. For each proof, the original prover pays a "validity bond" in Taiko tokens. If the proof is disputed, the contestor does not need to provide a fraud proof but must also pay a "contestation bond" in Taiko tokens. A higher-tier proof is required to resolve the dispute before this block can be approved. This design provides a robust framework for resolving discrepancies, ensuring the integrity of the rollup.
Taiko does not have a native token yet. However, Taiko is expected to have a native token (TKO) for governance and incentivization purposes. Specifically, almost every proof in Taiko requires a "validity bond" and a "contestation bond" paid in Taiko tokens by the original prover and contester. Although the release of TKO has not been confirmed, early contributors of Taiko, such as validators, node operators, and DeFi users, may potentially receive TKO as a reward via a future airdrop event. As of now, Bitget Wallet users can interact with the Katla testnet using ETH, HORSE (Holesky test token), and TTKOk (Katla test token).
The Taiko mainnet is currently scheduled to launch in Q1 2024. Taiko is now available on Katla, which is its sixth and final testnet. Katla has enabled participation from validators, node operators, app builders, and end users. Through Task2Get, an innovative Web3 exploration platform powered by Bitget Wallet, all crypto users get a chance to explore the Taiko ecosystem, engage with its native DApps, and even run a node on-chain.
The simplest way to start using Taiko is by creating a Taiko Wallet in Bitget Wallet, which can be installed via Google Play, App Store, or a Chrome extension. After installation, create a crypto wallet on the Taiko Katla testnet and try out the various DApps in the Taiko ecosystem!
