For the purposes of this market, a Category 5 hurricane is a hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 157 mph or higher, as described at https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/aboutsshws.php, and a hurricane landfall is said to occur when the hurricane's surface center intersects with the coastline, as described at https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/aboutgloss.shtml#LANDFALL. 

This market will resolve to "Yes" if any storm makes landfall in the conterminous United States as a Category 5 hurricane, as reported in official National Hurricane Center advisories (https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/archive/2023/IDALIA.shtml?) between market creation and December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”.

This market may resolve based on the initial advisory released by the NHC for whether any storm has made landfall in the conterminous United States at Category 5 strength, regardless of any later retraction or analysis that may contradict the initial qualifying announcement. However, subsequent corrections or updates will be considered if they indicate a qualifying incident.

Will any Category 5 hurricane make landfall in the US in before 2027?

This market will resolve to "Yes" if NOAA designates any storm in the Atlantic a hurricane between December 4, 2025, and May 31, 2026. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No".

The resolution source for this market will be NOAA’s list of named storms during the Atlantic hurricane season (https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/data/tcr/) and/or their data on individual storms.

If there is a potential named storm that has not yet been classified by May 31, 11:59 PM ET, the market may remain open until June 1, 12:00 PM ET to determine if a classification was made prior to midnight.

Will a hurricane form by May 31?

This market will resolve to “Over” if more than 5.5 games are played during the 2026 NHL Playoffs Eastern Conference Finals series between the Montreal Canadiens and Carolina Hurricanes. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “Under”.

If a partial series is played and not completed by June 14, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve according to the number of games played.

If the 2026 NHL Playoffs are cancelled, postponed after June 14, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, or there is otherwise no winner declared within that timeframe, this market will resolve to 50-50.

The resolution source for this market will be official information from the NHL; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.

NHL Playoffs: Canadiens vs. Hurricanes Total Games O/U 5.5

This market will resolve in favor of the 2026 Stanley Cup Finals matchup determined by the winners of the Western Conference Finals and Eastern Conference Finals of the 2026 NHL Playoffs.

If at any point it becomes impossible for a listed matchup to occur in the 2026 Stanley Cup Finals (e.g. they are mathematically eliminated), the associated market will resolve to "No".

If the 2026 Stanley Cup Finals are cancelled, postponed after June 14, 2026, 11:59 PM ET or the 2026 Stanley Cup Finals matchup has not been declared within that timeframe, this market will resolve to “Other”.
