What is Aegis?

Aegis is a decentralized finance (DeFi) platform that offers a Bitcoin-backed, yield-generating stablecoin named YUSD. It aims to provide users with a stable digital currency that is independent of traditional banking systems, ensuring transparency and continuous yield generation.

How Does Aegis Work?

Aegis operates by holding Bitcoin as collateral and stabilizing YUSD through delta-neutral hedging strategies. This involves selling Bitcoin-margined perpetual contracts equal to the Bitcoin exposure, effectively balancing gains and losses to maintain YUSD's value at $1. Users earn yields from funding fees generated by these perpetual contracts.

What Makes Aegis Unique?

Aegis distinguishes itself by offering a stablecoin that is fully backed by Bitcoin, ensuring transparency with real-time proof-of-reserves. Unlike traditional stablecoins, YUSD generates yield for holders without the need for staking, and it operates independently from existing stablecoins and fiat banking systems.

Who Are the Founders of Aegis?

Aegis was founded by a group of computer science students from Harvard College. Their personal experiences with crypto investment losses motivated them to create a platform focused on decentralized consumer protection and financial stability.
