What is Moonbirds?

Moonbirds is an Ethereum-based NFT collection comprising 10,000 unique, pixelated owl-themed profile pictures (PFPs). Launched on April 16, 2022, by the PROOF Collective, Moonbirds aims to provide utility-focused PFPs that offer holders access to exclusive community benefits, including private Discord channels, in-person events, and more. The project emphasizes long-term engagement through features like 'nesting,' where holders can lock their NFTs to accrue additional rewards over time.

How Does Moonbirds Work?

Moonbirds operates on the Ethereum blockchain, adhering to the ERC-721 standard for NFTs. Each Moonbird NFT is unique, with various traits that determine its rarity. Holders can 'nest' their Moonbirds, a process that involves locking the NFT in their wallet without transferring ownership. This non-custodial staking mechanism allows the NFT to accrue benefits over time, such as upgraded nests and exclusive rewards. The longer a Moonbird is nested, the more benefits the holder can unlock.

Nesting Mechanism: This innovative staking feature rewards holders for long-term commitment by unlocking new benefits and rewards as the nesting period progresses. 2. Exclusive Community Access: Ownership grants entry to the PROOF Collective's private Discord server, in-person events, and other exclusive experiences. 3. Creative Commons Zero (CC0) License: In August 2022, Moonbirds transitioned to a CC0 license, allowing anyone to use the Moonbirds artwork for any purpose, fostering broader community engagement and creative use.

Moonbirds was created by the PROOF Collective, co-founded by Kevin Rose and Justin Mezzell. Kevin Rose is a prominent internet entrepreneur known for founding Digg and his involvement in various tech ventures.
