What is RIT Capital Partners?

RIT Capital Partners is a leading British investment trust, formerly known as the Rothschild Investment Trust. It is a publicly listed company on the London Stock Exchange and a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index. The project's mission is to deliver long-term capital growth while preserving shareholders' capital through a highly diversified, global portfolio that spans multiple asset classes, including quoted equities, private investments, and uncorrelated strategies.

How Does RIT Capital Partners Work?

RIT Capital Partners operates as a closed-ended investment fund managed by its subsidiary, J. Rothschild Capital Management Limited. Unlike traditional funds, it is unconstrained by formal benchmarks, allowing its managers to allocate capital flexibly across geographies and industries. The investment process combines an in-house expert team with a global network of specialist external managers to access 'hard-to-reach' opportunities in both public and private markets.

What Makes RIT Capital Partners Unique?

What sets RIT Capital Partners apart is its unique 'permanent capital' structure and its history of investing alongside the Rothschild family. It is particularly noted for its significant exposure to private equity and venture capital, including early and strategic stakes in major fintech and crypto infrastructure projects such as Kraken, Paxos, and Xapo Bank. This allows retail investors to gain exposure to high-growth private assets usually reserved for institutional players.

Who Are the Founders of RIT Capital Partners?

The firm was founded in 1961 by Lord Jacob Rothschild (4th Baron Rothschild) to manage the English branch of the Rothschild family's wealth outside of the family bank. Lord Rothschild served as Chairman until 2019 and remained President until his passing in 2024. Today, the firm is led by Chairman Philippe Costeletos and CEO Maggie Fanari, continuing the legacy of entrepreneurial and independent investment thinking.
