What is Mirror?

Mirror Protocol was a decentralized finance (DeFi) platform that allowed users to create and trade synthetic assets, known as mAssets, which mirrored the price of real-world assets like stocks and commodities. Built on the Terra blockchain by Terraform Labs, Mirror aimed to democratize access to financial markets by enabling global users to trade these assets 24/7 without traditional barriers.

How Does Mirror Work?

Mirror operated through smart contracts on the Terra blockchain, allowing users to mint mAssets by locking up collateral, typically in Terra's stablecoin, UST. These mAssets could then be traded on decentralized exchanges like Terraswap. The protocol utilized decentralized price oracles to ensure that mAsset prices accurately reflected their real-world counterparts.

What Makes Mirror Unique?

Mirror's key features included: 1. Global Accessibility: Enabled users worldwide to access and trade synthetic versions of real-world assets without geographical restrictions. 2. Fractional Ownership: Allowed users to own fractional shares of assets, lowering the entry barrier for investment. 3. Decentralized Governance: Operated without admin keys or special access privileges, with governance decisions made by MIR token holders.

Who Are the Founders of Mirror?

Mirror Protocol was developed by Terraform Labs, founded by Do Kwon and Daniel Shin. Do Kwon, serving as CEO, had prior experience at Microsoft and Apple, while Daniel Shin was the founder and CEO of TicketMonster, a South Korean e-commerce platform.
